Overview
The University of Limerick Student Centre is an award-winning landmark development that has redefined the heart of campus life, creating a vibrant destination for learning, collaboration, wellbeing and student engagement.
Recognised as one of Ireland’s most celebrated construction projects of 2026, the development received the RIAI Architecture Award for Public Buildings and was named Overall Project of the Year as well as Building Category Winner at the 43rd Irish Concrete Society Awards. The project was also shortlisted in the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) Excellence Awards, reflecting the exceptional quality of its design, engineering and delivery.
Located at the centre of the University of Limerick campus, the four-storey over-basement building provides approximately 3,529m² of contemporary, flexible accommodation designed to support every aspect of student life. Developed through a unique partnership between the University and its students, the facility brings together the Students’ Union, clubs and societies, social and recreational spaces, meeting rooms, media and podcast studios, a multi-purpose auditorium, café, retail space, offices and a landscaped rooftop garden within a single, purpose-built hub.
Designed to achieve an A3 Building Energy Rating, the building combines architectural excellence with sustainable design and high-quality construction. Its exposed reinforced concrete frame, premium brick and limestone façade, generous glazing and carefully detailed interiors create a distinctive civic building that is both robust and welcoming, establishing a lasting focal point for the University community.
